Partial trauma benefits (sometimes called Trauma Plus benefits, Partial Trauma Booster, or early-stage payouts) pay a percentage of the sum insured for less severe versions of covered conditions — for example, early-stage melanoma, carcinoma in situ, or angioplasty for a single vessel. The benefit percentage and condition list vary by insurer and product. For example, Zurich Trauma Plus pays 20% of the trauma benefit (capped at $20,000 for angioplasty and $100,000 for other partial-payment conditions), and OnePath Trauma Comprehensive pays 10% partial benefits on two specific conditions, with Premier Cover adding 17 more partial-payment conditions at 20%. Many policies allow multiple partial claims for unrelated conditions over the lifetime of the policy, with each claim reducing the available trauma sum insured by the amount paid. Some policies cap total partial payments at a defined percentage of the sum insured. After a partial claim is paid, the remaining trauma cover continues, and you can claim a full trauma benefit later if a qualifying severe condition is diagnosed. Read your policy's PDS carefully — partial benefit structures differ materially between insurers.
